Monthly Lawyer Profile – Andrea East

Why did you become a lawyer?

I love reading, writing and research, and lawyering allows me to use those skills to help others achieve their business goals.

What is the focus of your law practice?

Most of my practice involves complex commercial transactions and real estate development on First Nations’ lands.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what profession would you like to attempt?

I’m not really sure. I love being a lawyer and don’t really see myself doing anything else. However, if money were no object it would be fun to have a career that incorporated my love of textiles and craft.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what profession would you never do?

I’m not terribly fond of getting dirty, so I probably would not do well in any job that involves a lot of mud.

Your favourite technology tool?

I am very fond of my vertical mouse. It is a strange looking thing, but makes computer work so much more ergonomic.

What is the first thing you check each morning?

I check if the kids are up yet.

What are people most surprised to learn about you?

As I write this, I am very pregnant and people seem quite surprised that this is baby number 3 for us.

Your biggest extravagance?

I love fine fabrics and textiles, especially wools and silks.

Your favourite food and drink?

There is nothing better than fresh fruit just picked, especially cherries. I really do love cherries.

Your favourite motto?

I never really thought of myself as a motto person. I’m struggling to think of one. “Carpe diem” is always good.
