Solicitor General to Introduce Tougher Impaired Driving Laws

The BC Solicitor General Kash Heed recently announced that he will be introducing new legislation combating impaired-driving offences. The aims of the legislation are said to be to improve timely access to justice, combat crime, reduce impaired driving, and improve public safety.

Although details of the proposed legislation have not yet been released, Heed stated that the legislation would make our province’s laws among the most aggressive anti drinking-and-driving laws in the country. Groups advocating for tougher impaired-driving laws also predict that the legislation will include a reduction of the legal blood-alcohol limit from 0.08% to 0.05%.

Once introduced, the proposed legislation will be available at the website of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia at http://www.leg.bc.ca/legislation/index.htm.
