Criminal Justice Reform In BC; Your Feedback Is Requested

The public is invited to provide comment through a new website established to facilitate an independent review of BC’s criminal justice system.

Earlier this year, Vancouver lawyer Geoff Cowper, QC was asked by the provincial government to conduct the review.

At the same time, the Ministry of Justice released a Green Paper, which summarizes some of the concerns identified by the provincial government. The goals of the review are to look at the facts underlying concerns with the system and to recommend solutions that would make it more efficient and effective.

This initiative has been created to identify and recommend reforms to improve the criminal justice system.

The website offers an opportunity for your input. Whether you are a member of the public or someone who works in justice system your views and comments are welcome.

There are a number of ways you can participate.

This site includes the Chair’s blog, surveys, and a feedback form to discuss the issues and identify potential solutions.

Interim updates will be published here.

The final report will be provided to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General by July 2012.
