The lawyers and staff at Pushor Mitchell LLP want to share that after 26 years in practice, James Paterson, a valuable member of the PM team, has decided to retire from the practice of law effective August 31, 2022.
James earned his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995 and joined Pushor Mitchell in 1999. He became Partner in 2003 and was Managing Partner from 2015 to 2019. He built a diverse practice that included business law matters, real estate law and estate planning and he was very proud to be counsel for hundreds of local corporations and several local societies, many of which he created over the years. His favorite part of practice was meeting with his clients, many of whom have become great friends, and assisting them with their legal needs, being one part of their team of advisors. He will definitely miss that, and he will also miss all of the fantastic people he has been able to work with over the years at PM, which he thinks is the best place to have spent his many years practicing law.
James was also active in the community, including various leadership roles such as Past President of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, the Kelowna Art Gallery and the Kelowna Bar Association, as well as Past Director of the United Way, Central Okanagan Community Futures Development Corporation, Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School and serving on the City of Kelowna Water Quality Taskforce , in addition to being the local representative for the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association. This was also in addition to his outside business interests, namely the formation of Decisive Dividend Corporation, a publicly listed company on the TSXV where he remains Chair of the Board of Directors. He also managed to find time for coaching youth sports and playing in a couple of bands over the years. He very much looks forward to spending more time with his wife Gabi following their two boys, Quinn and William, wherever their studies and hockey takes them!
Andrew Brunton, Managing Partner for Pushor Mitchell says “James’ level-headed leadership style, good humor and solid business acumen has been a valuable asset to Pushor Mitchell during his time here. He will be missed at the firm, and all of us at Pushor Mitchell wish him the very best for his future endeavors.”
