Pushor Mitchell Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8 is International Women’s Day—a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality; we are making progress, but there’s more to be done.

This year, we seek to continue to inspire inclusion by encouraging everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalized communities.

In the recent The Daily Courier special issue, Business Women of the Okanagan 2024, Pushor Mitchell released an editorial highlighting the experience and importance of women within our firm. To help celebrate International Women’s Day, we would like to share that editorial and let our women lawyers speak to their professional experience working at Pushor Mitchell.

Balancing the Personal and the Professional

Pushor Mitchell LLP Team

Under the leadership of Managing Partner Joni Metherell, our team of women lawyers make a valued contribution to our firm’s growth and success.

Here’s what a few of them have to say about how their experience at Pushor Mitchell has helped them navigate the challenges of balancing professional careers and personal responsibilities.

“I am grateful for the support and flexibility the firm has provided, allowing me to reach my professional goals while becoming a new mom,” says lawyer Julia Norman. “After the birth of my son, I was able to work part time during my maternity leave to continue to support my clients, while still prioritizing my family. I truly believe that it is possible to be a great mom and have a professional career, as I’ve witnessed some of our senior female partners do before me.”

Caitlin Kessler first started at Pushor Mitchell in 2014 to complete her paralegal practicum. “I applied to Pushor Mitchell because I had heard of its reputation for excellence,” says Caitlin. “Over the past ten years, I have been supported and cheered on through all aspects of my life through work, returning to school, starting a family, and most recently, being called to the bar!”

Pushor Mitchell’s HR Director, Jenny Rodgers, shares that hiring and developing excellent legal talent is a key priority of the firm, and to do that, they recognize that supporting personal-professional balance is key. “We strive to foster an environment that facilitates the professional growth of all our people. For women especially, there are unique challenges in balancing a professional career with care-giving responsibilities for our loved ones. At Pushor Mitchell, we’re working to build a culture that empowers women to excel, and that no one feels the need to sacrifice their professional aspirations in lieu of their family commitments.”

“At the heart of our firm is our people,” says Joni Metherell, Managing Partner. “We have a dedicated and experienced team of lawyers and staff that are passionate about the work they do.”

Navigating the fast-paced nature of modern life can be stressful. While trying to balance your professional and personal lives, seeking legal counsel can seem like a daunting task. But at Pushor Mitchell, our team of professionals are here to help you with people who understand.
