Why did you become a lawyer?
Truthfully, I was about to finish my undergraduate degree and I hadn’t decided what to do next. My parents suggested that I follow my sister’s course and attend law school, and so I applied. While I may not have always known I would pursue a career in law, it has proven to be a very satisfying career. Sometimes parents do know best.
What is the focus of your law practice?
I practice in the area of civil litigation with a focus on commercial matters. My primary areas of practice are construction, employment, real estate litigation, debtor/creditor claims, and general contractual disputes.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what profession would you like to attempt?
I have always had a strong interest in urban planning. I probably would have pursued a degree in urban planning if I did not become a lawyer.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what profession would you never do?
A psychologist.
Your favourite technology tool?
Presently, it’s my Nike FuelBand, which measures and tracks my daily activity. It’s probably more of a “toy” than a “tool”, but it motivates me to stay busy.
What is the first thing you check each morning?
Hockey message boards. I am a huge Vancouver Canucks fan and I like to know the latest news.
What are people most surprised to learn about you?
I am always game for karaoke.
Your biggest extravagance?
Travel. This year I will be heading to the Coachella Music Festival in Palm Springs for my third time and I will be heading to Turkey shortly thereafter.
Your favourite food and drink?
My favourite type of food is definitely pub food, for instance, chicken wings or nachos.
My favourite drink for the moment is Crannog’s “Back hand of God Stout”.
Your favourite motto?
I don’t really have a motto, but given my weakness for pub foods, it should probably be “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.
