Position Overview:
The Controller will oversee the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insightful financial reporting. This role will provide leadership in accounting and finance functions, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to the firm’s long- term vision. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work closely with firm leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Pushor Mitchell Financial Controller
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and collections, payroll, and trust accounting.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with firm policies and Law Society requirements.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop financial models, forecasts and performance metrics to support management decision-making.
- Provide actionable insights to the COO and partners regarding profitability, cost management, and revenue optimization.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor performance against budget.
- Identify and explain variances, providing recommendations for corrective action.Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee the integration and effective use of the firm’s ERP and financial systems.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance and training to ensure professional growth and strong team performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field; CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience in a professional services or legal industry environment is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

- Competitive base salary: $100,000 – $120,000 per annum (plus performance bonus)
