On April 24th, the Okanagan Forest Task Force was recognized as the Central Okanagan Foundation’s Volunteer Organization of the Year for their work in 2023. The recognition came as part of the 49th annual Kelowna Civic & Community Awards. The Award, which is sponsored by the Central Okanagan Foundation (COF), was presented by COF Past Chair, Karen Hill, and Vice-Chair, Mark Brade (Pushor Mitchell LLP).
Last year, the Okanagan Forest Task Force took environmental protection into their own hands. The group removed approximately 800 pounds of garbage dumped along Beaver Lake Road, but this turned out to only be a fraction of their annual clearing efforts. Since January 2023, Okanagan Forest Task Force has removed over 250,000 pounds of garbage from backcountry recreation areas across the Okanagan. With the goal of keeping our forests clean and stopping illegal dumping, the organization now boasts 2950 members volunteering to help make this a reality.
The organization received the award alongside a donation of $3,000 from the Central Okanagan Foundation. Congratulations to the Okanagan Forest Task Force, and thank you for all your incredible work.
