Why did you become a lawyer?
As I kid I loved watching Perry Mason. From a young age thought it would be a great career. So far so good!
What is the focus of your law practice?
Mainly litigation with an emphasis on law involving the employment relationship and commercial litigation. Because of special knowledge of issues arising in the workplace I also draft contracts and policies related to protection of information, employment (beginning and ending the relationship), and independent contractors.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what profession would you like to attempt?
In my dreams I would be a professional athlete – soccer player, cyclist, or golfer. Back down to earth I would enjoy being a business consultant.
What is the best thing about practicing law?
The never ending challenges. There are no dull moments.
The worst thing?
Litigation lawyers often have to deal with unreasonable opponents and personalities. It can be frustrating sometimes.
Your favourite technology tool?
I am a techno junkie. I use a lot of technology. Voice recognition dictation is a favourite tool.
What is the first thing you check each morning?
The weather as it will dictate my pre–breakfast chores and mode of transportation that day (the MG does not do well in the rain).
What are people most surprised to learn about you?
I am a softy (not so) deep down.
Your biggest extravagance?
I love my hobby farm. It provides never ending opportunity to putter, build, plant, and also to operate machinery.
Your favourite food and drink?
I have fairly simple tastes. Nothing beats a good barbequed grass fed steak with fresh vegetables and a glass of merlot.
Your favourite motto?
You can’t have everything! Where would you put it?
