Questions About Insurance During Wildfire Season?

If your vehicle, home, or business was damaged as a result of wildfire, your first point of contact should be your insurance provider. For detailed information and advice about insurance during wildfire season, contact the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Consumer Information Centre at 1-844-227-5422 or visit their informational page on the 2023 Wildfire Season at https://www.ibc.ca/stay-protected/severe-weather-centre/2023-wildfire-season.

If you need help submitting or managing your claim to your insurance provider, you may want to consider contacting your broker, or an independent or third-party claims adjuster. These insurance professionals have the specific expertise required to assist you in this process.

If you still have questions or concerns and need to speak with a lawyer, we are happy to help.  Every insurance contract is different—even those provided by the same insurance companies—and so there is no one-size-fits-all advice about your particular policy. Before booking an initial consultation, you will need to provide the lawyer with a copy of all of your insurance policy documents and allow the lawyer time to review your policy in advance of your consultation.  Most insurance providers have online portals where you can access your policy paperwork—ask your insurer or broker for access to your account and policy.
